The Reflective Princess

In another 15 minutes, the brand new, mystery and juicy month will arrive. Gosh! Why is my heart beating so furiously?

*dup dap dup dup dap dup dap dap*

While waiting for June (not Si June k? lol. She is my coursemate) to conquer my calendar, I would love to make a small recap on what I have done in this past 5 months. I think, this is a good time to recall both of my achievements and failures before starting the brand new month. Well, I don’t want to recycle my New Year Resolution in year 2011 as a result of the same mistakes – talk only but no action.

 bos2

So, it is crucial that I do this little reflective work. Small effort leads to big success. Yes?

I’ve visited my 1st post of 2010 (here is the link) which is about my new year hopes awhile ago (it is always good that you keep a blog or diary to keep track on what YOU HAVE PROMISED!). I have called this my Action Year, in which I will focus on taking action and making my dreams come true – rather than just think, plan and do nothing. Besides, I have even made myself a motto: Live Life With No Regrets.

Of course. I still remember all my hopes and promises, though not as clear as before. If you ask me, how far have I put plans into action with the scale of 1-10, with 1 is the least. Emm… I would say… I.. have just achieved 3 out of 10. Bad uh? Not even 50% when we are almost living half of 2010 year.

Small recap:

Months

Things which I’ve done

January

  • Enrolled myself in acting class
  • Tuned my mood for studies in new semester
  • New experience: Joining Kaun’s team for campus election
  • Get into Amway business. Attended an amazing seminar for leadership, relationship and business.
  • Good job on Unlock-Your-Heart poster.

February

  • Got myself a list of clients for counseling assignments
  • Made artwork for Valentine gift

March

April

May

  • 2 weeks of holiday (enjoy to the max!)
  • Spend a great week with friends & families.
  • Found my part time job
  • Working

While jotting down my 5 months of histories into the above table, I realized that I actually don’t achieve that much. I mean, I don’t feel fulfilled at all although there are some highlighted events which I should be happy for. The main goals have not been achieved yet. Failed.

One thing which I should do earlier, is to write down those goals which I want to hit precisely. When one can describe what she wants in life and explain how to achieve them clearly, for sure she can achieve it. Don’t you think so?

***

One of the goals I must reveal and you should know is:

I want to make this blog a more happening place. It will be filled with more inspiring and interesting posts that will keep you coming back for more. Of course, not to forget more spiciness from CurryEgg!

How much will this blog transform starting by today (1 June 2010)? Well, it is for me to work out and for you to find out!

***

Seriously, if I didn’t take this decision to reflect and recap my past achievements, I believe I am still sleeping in my slumberland. For sure, I will wake up in the end of the year and regretting for not using my time wisely.

bos

So, I am glad that I’ve taken this action. At least, I have another 7 months to work on my goals. Now, I can see that I am being responsible with myself, and my life even better.

How about you? Did you make your new year resolution too? Have you achieve them? If yes, what have you achieved? If no, what are you going to do next?

P/s: I am going to produce more goal-oriented blog posts after this.

A Day of Remembrance for Those We Must Never Forget

Since today is Memorial Day, we at Brushfire thought it would only be fair to highlight a charity that helps aid our soldiers and their families. Soldiers’ Angels is a nonprofit that provides aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Gaurd, and their families.
What makes this organization so special is that is was built by the very hands in which it protects. Patti Patton-Bader, mother of two soldiers, began the foundation by gathering a few friends and sending care-packages to soldiers overseas, including her two sons after hearing about the low morale of the deported troops. As she gained more products from a wider array of merchants, and volunteer size growing exponentially, Soldiers’ Angels was born.
To date, Soldiers’Angels volunteers have sent hundreds of thousands of care packages and letters to deployed service members. They have supplied the wounded with First Response Packs directly at the Combat Support Hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan and the major military hospital in Germany, as well as provided care and comfort to those in stateside military facilities. Additionally, Soldiers’ Angels have provided emergency aid to military families in need. Furthermore, they partnered with the Department of Defense to provide voice-controlled/adaptive laptops to nearly 3,000 severely-wounded service members, as well as other technology that supports rehabilitation. In case of emergency, Soldiers’ Angels have provided flights to soldiers and to their families wishing to greet them upon return from overseas. They have provided Level III KEVLAR armored blankets to give personnel extra protection in vehicles when necessary.
Most importantly, Soldiers’ Angels honors and upholds the families whose loved ones have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and safety. With the assistance of their generous supporters, the abundant volunteers of Soldiers' Angels are able to express appreciation and respect on behalf of the citizens of the United States of America. Indeed they have fulfilled the motto that they so graciously uphold, “May No Soldier Go Unloved.”Brushfire would like to sincerely thank the troops that fight to uphold our primary and natural born rights that encompasses our wonderful nation today. Happy Memorial Day. Have YOU helped save the world today?

Big Fish Moment with Pizza Hut

Seriously, I am losing words for this post.

You know right. When it comes to nice food, my curryegg's writing skill is at risk. I can't be a good photographer nor a writer. That's one of my weaknesses *oopss.. know you've found out*

No matter how hard I’ve tried to put all my feelings into words, still… I failed. So, I have decided to put this, another way round. I’m putting all my photos here to speak directly to you. Since, everyone believes that  ‘picture is worth a thousand words’, thus, I have no reason to reject my following actions.

Before that, this story begins from Nuffnang. I have found out that PizzaHut is organizing a blog competition, selecting the best 5 creative writing on their latest 'masterpiece' namely, the 'Fish King Pizza'. Yes. You can find fishes on the cheezily cheese pizza!

So, I thought of trying my lady luck for this competition as the 5 lucky winners can win RM2000 each. Oh my gosh! I can buy a netbook or a DSLR!

Well of course, you can do anything without taking the first move - visit one of the PizzaHut outlet and try their latest product. So, I did and had tried it. 100% real personal experience. Even Eric's too. Lol..

This is what I call, my happy moment.

Frankly, win or no win, I am being honest with you about this new dish. It is really worth to be tried at least 10th times - for the cripsy fishes, cheezy mozzarella cheese and reasonable price!

Now people, who wanna join me for the next Fish King trip?

***

The ugly truth that you shouldn't know much:

Sorry mama... I buy you another one next time k?
=((

Should I switch To Curryegg.Com?

Note: This is my critical moment. It involves both yours and mine future. Pay attention.

Some of you witness my blog’s growth from an infant to a child. I still remember all of my first batch readers who kept on visiting and leaving comments (I wonder are you still with me now?) during in my first year of blogging life. You watch me growing from no post to hundreds of posts, from a boring site turns into a more happening personal diary.

Well, this growth wouldn’t be a fun and exciting experience for me if without your presence: both my old and new readers.

So, before I decide to make a big change for this blog (probably), I think it is best that I can get your responses. I would love to hear from you because I feel that this is like a home for all of us.

*Humming Barney’s Song*

I love you, you love me.. we are happy family.. lol..

Of course, I know I own this blog and it makes sense that I have full authority over this whole blog thingy. However, I have slightly different opinion compare to other bloggers. I treat this place like a home to all of us- to everyone who enjoys reading curryegg’s blog as much as I do.

DSC01088 That’s me.

I think, you can get a better picture on how I view my readers in my reader’s affair post. Thus, I want you to get involve together with me for this blog’s future. This is important.

So here:

I am facing this dilemma whether to switch or connect my current curryegg.blogspot.com to curryegg.com. It takes me 6 months to do the planning. Well yes, I have already owned this domain, the dot com since last November. Thank to Joey Tong for his kindness. He bought me this curryegg.com domain as a gift for my birthday. Ahhwww… he is so nice. Thank a lot.

Note: blogspot.com is a sponsor blog whereas .com is a domain which you need yearly payment.

Well seriously, I think this is a real waste of time. I have lost my 6 months just for planning and do nothing at all for this website. Oh yes. I did a trial post on it. But that’s not what I want.

Since I am still having this dilemma whether:

1) to connect my current blog into this new domain (which will be exactly the same like the current blog)

2) run this curryegg.com as a new website (discussing different topics which will be time consuming)

I have decided to bring this up and discuss it together because I always believe that ‘more brains is better than 1’. Plus, I want to hear from you as I need your opinions, sharing or suggestions which will contribute to my final decision.

kedlw

So…..

Do you think it is a good idea to have my own domain for curryegg territory? Or keep this current blog at blogspot.com and create a new website in curryegg.com? Maybe it will be used to discuss about curry spices, curry dishes, motivational or etc?

Tell me my dear readers! Tell me!

Thank you in advance.. <3

Dream On Daydreamers!

Were you ever one of those kids with outlandish daydreams and was constantly pestered by your peers because of the scope of your goals? Well now you can release that inner child with Pepsi’s Refresh Project.
In January 2010, PepsiCo launched a campaign that would help generate and fund ideas that would essentially “refresh”the world and dubbed it Pepsi’s Refresh Project. The outline is quite simple. Submit your idea on their website, choose the amount of funding you need to make it happen (pick between 5k, 25k,50k, 250k), and sit back and hope that your idea gains a multitude of votes. Hey, if you’re currently facing a little “writer’s block”you can still help out by voting for your favorite causes that are highlighted on the website.
Six grant categories exist in which applicants can choose from: Health, Arts & Culture, Food & Health, The Planet, Neighborhoods, and Education. As the potential grant amount increases, the number of awardees per month decreases. For example, up to ten applications will be awarded with the 5K grant per month but only two will be awarded the 250k.
Didn’t get the grant the first go round? Well, remember the old adage “At first you don't succeed, try try again?” Granny’s advice finally is put into some good use as the whole process starts over each month.
Pepsi is changing lives and opening minds with their innovative new Pepsi Refresh Project. So get to work guys, start mulling around a few creative ways to improve our society and you may find yourself juggling some serious dough to get your idea started. So let’s get this party started already! Have YOU helped save the world today?

All Good Things Must Come to an End!

Oprah Winfrey’s charity, The Angel Network, is closing its doors. The network ceased accepting donations this week and also stated that upon its upcoming eradication, the remaining funds would be dispersed as it sees fit. Although it seems like a surprise to most, being that Oprah’s widely popular talk show is finally coming to a close, well it seemed only a matter of time that her foundation would follow suit.
The Angel Network was launched in 1998 and was funded by donations from Oprah’s viewers. Nearly thirteen years later and over $80 million raised for charity, The Angel Network is finally calling it quits.
Some of the best-known projects from Oprah’s Angel Network include rebuilding efforts for the Gulf Coast communities who were devastated by the damages that Hurricane Katrina left in its wake. It was also responsible for the construction of over fifty-five rural schools in over twelve different countries.
Although her foundation may be closing its door, Oprah Winfrey certainly hasn't backed out from further philanthropic efforts. Upon the start up of her new cable network, which will run twenty four hours a day and set to begin in January 2011, Winfrey plans on highlighting and raising funds for countless charitable organizations in the coming years.
Certainly do not count Ms. Winfrey out just yet America and friends. With a heart as big as the ocean, and a designer pocketbook to match, Oprah will always been open and willing to lend a helping hand. Like grandma used to say, “When one door closes, another one opens!” So don’t head for the hills screaming just yet, we think that something immense is on the horizon from this unforgettable media mogul. Do You Have Gf?

I was standing in front of these 2 small kids while leading myself to the escalator, one in casual wear while another one in school uniform. From their physical appearance, I believe they should be at the age of 7-8.

They didn’t catch my attention till I overheard their conversation. Well, not purposely ok.

Kids A: Do you have girlfriends?

Kids B: Yes

Kids A: How many?

Kids B: I have 4.

Kids A: Are you sure you have girlfriend?

Kids B: hmmm mmm.. *I managed to catch a glimpse of this boy nodding*

Kids A: But 4 only?

Kids B: No. It’s actually 6.

Kids A: I have 8 *I could hear a slightly proud tone in his answer*

Kids B: Sorry. I remember wrongly. I have 8 too. *sound like a man ego to me*

Kids A: How do they look like? *started feeling suspicious over the answer*

Kids B: Oh.. I tell you. 1 is sexy, 1 is pretty and another one is masculine. She has muscles you know. Then…… *and the conversation continued*

I didn’t manage to listen to the whole conversation because soon, we were heading to different direction. Plus, a woman whom I believe is a mother to one of the kids (I don’t think the kids are siblings) finally voiced out, asking them to follow her, instead of leading.

Haha…

Seriously, the conversation really caught my attention. Kids today, is so today. At young age, they speak like an adult. Also, they know ‘man talk’ already. Hmmmmmm.. I wonder who actually taught them? Sexy? and girlfriends?

If I have a chance, I would want to snap their pictures and put them here. Well, it is still unethical right? lol..

So, should we consider this as a funny issue or a serious one? Is this something normal that guys (despite of the differences of age) think and speak like this too? Enlighten me please especially the male readers. I need your opinion.

I call this, the male thing: Woman fantasy.

American Express: Why you should NEVER leave home without it

American express is working on taking it’s motto a bit more literally. A few months ago, Amex and Take Part announced the return of the Members Project, a creative online initiative that provides those with a passion for philanthropy and interest in helping out others an opportunity to take small steps to make a big difference.
Take Part is a content-driven social action network created by Participant Media (a company that uses cinema and film to drive individual engagement and social action). On it’s website, Take Part features actions addressing issues ranging from homelessness, dolphin capture, food safety and world health among others and encourages people to “take part”in the features by either donating time toward the cause or their funds. People are free to post their own actions on the website in order to gain momentum with their cause.
The announcement of the Amex/Take Part cohesiveness kicks off a multi-year relationship designed to allow individuals make a difference on any scale in the lives of others through the Members Project. Whether it’s volunteering for a local organization, making a donation or voting for a charity to receive additional funding from American Express, the Members Project will provide the tools and resources to uphold the diverse causes and foundations that the public cares about the most and aids in empowering everyone to be successful at making a difference.
“The partnership with American Express is extraordinarily exciting for TakePart,” said Christopher Gebhardt, General Manager of TakePart. “We believe that media can be an invitation to engage in making the world a better place. Partnering with American Express, TakePart will help inform, inspire, and activate users with tools to really make a difference.”
American Express is leading people into the future through their philanthropic initiative with Take Part. At Brushfire, we believe that companies who are socially responsible, such as Amex, should be highlighted for they set a high standard in which the rest of the world must levitate. It’s like they say with American Express, “Never leave home without it.” And we couldn't agree more. Have YOU helped save the world today?

First Day Of Being A Craft Teacher

Gee…

I thought, there will be my live blogging post this morning as I was blogging from my phone. Well, I guess it is not working. Never the mind.

Today is my first day of work at a craft shop, teaching children how to make craft. It is the most interesting job I have ever worked on (second is being an art teacher). I am a part-timer, learning how the centre work, how to teach the child, how to deal with parents and how to improve my teaching skills.

It has been ages since I became a teacher for young children (exclude my nephews and niece. lol). It is tiring not because of the work, but the full attention one’s need to give to every children during in each sessions. Children at young age needs lot of attention, cares and guideline from the adults.

You might be wondering how long each session takes. Well, each session take 1 hour. I have to work averagely 7-8 hours. So, you do the maths.

During weekend, I have been informed that it will be crowded as you don’t even have time for a break or even for lunch because it is no-school-day. So, parents will bring their kids to the centre.

ckl A random photo of me. Worried that you might forget my face. lolx.

Well, I have taught a class with 10-15 total of children (or more? I have forgotten the exact total) with my cousins during in my aunt’s kidnergarden. It is just for 2 hours and I can feel the tiredness.

Anyway, I am willing to work and gain experience with my work, the people and the children. I don’t mind paying extra effort to work for this job because I know, this is a big move to reach my long-term goal.

I shall share more in my next post because my stomach is rumbling again. Time to get a quick maggie mee session (instant noodles). Hope that I will be allowed to take some photos. Wait, is it a good idea to let my colleagues know about my blog?

Emm.. maybe not now.

"Hope Floats" For New Orleans

It seems that New Orleans has begun to embrace its past flood-like history through a little help from a few innovative minds and some hard-working hands. The FLOAT house is being unveiled this month, which was developed by Morphosis architects and graduate students from UCLA’s School of Architecture and Urban Design. The FLOAT house is expected to be the first floating home permitted in the United States and an ideal example of the kind of green solutions that are constantly being discovered at Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation.
When the foundation was launched, Pitt promised the residents of New Orleans that he would personally strive to build them stronger, safer and more progressive home that would be able to stand any storm or flood that may loom ahead.
The FLOAT house definitely delivers on that promise. The house is a prototype of affordable, green housing that can be mass produced for flood-prone areas such as New Orleans. The house is able to sustain its own water and power needs, can survive floodwaters over twelve feet, and can be fabricated cheaply enough to function as low-income housing.
So, how does this water and eco-friendly abode really work? The base of the house acts as a chassis and when it floods. The chassis then serves as a raft, permitting the home to rise vertically on two guide posts placed at the front and back of the FLOAT house.
With its creative function and green makeup, the FLOAT house hits the nail on the head! Will this concept work on a bigger, more international scale? It’s too early to tell, but it’s certainly starting a trend of thinking outside of the box. Have YOU helped save the world today?
