The Real Expressive Art Scene

I guess most of you still remember the Expressive Art Workshop which I had mentioned previously? I hope you will not forget my 'creation'. Haha.. Well, this time, I want to show you some of my friends creation which are good too. In fact, there is nothing like 'good' or 'bad' and no one should label others' work too because that is what we call expressive art.

Talking about how our society love making judgement on others work (or the person) is something which I hated so much. Awkward stares and unfriendly body languages really turn my mood off. It reminded me how I was being judged on my work which I thought it is pretty nice and OK but then, some people weren't agree with me and my work ended up in the trash. Not that they throw my work into the bin.

I did that because I was being graded with a big fat
'E'.

Notes: Some people here referred to my primary teachers.

That incident happened when I was still in my primary school. Since then, I have this 'perfectionist' trait evolved in me as I want to make things perfectly so that the same incident will not happen again. I guess that did affect me a lot both mentally and emotionally.

Anyway, my 'perfectionist' mode was being turn off when I was in this workshop as I want to express as freely as possible without worrying how my work will turn up. I know I am safe to be myself and I don't have to worry others mind. Being spontaneous and passionate have allowed me to explore my feeling - which is good.

That is how my creation is being created and I just so in love with my work. Most importantly, no grading is being carried out during in this workshop. That's mean, no one will grade your work either is an 'A' or 'Z' work. Frankly, this is something everyone should learn, not to grade an artwork. Instead, try to understand why it is being created and explore the creator's feeling and thinking. Every piece of creation means something and only the creator knows them well.

So, if you are a parent or a teacher, do take note that it is important to understand your children or your student from their 'creation'. Creation can be artwork, essay writing, games, dressing and etc. By observing their creation and asking for the meaning, you will understand the child better. This is what we call, expressive art.

I guess I have typed too far away from my main title. Oh gosh. It always happen when I am too excited about certain topic. Please forgive me.. :P

Dr. D's Expressive Art Workshop was fun and all of us were having good time being a creative and innovative creators. These are what my friends had done.

Most of my friends are good in making 3D art work and I am impressed. Frankly, I love the rose so much and I will never believed that a guy with an ENTP typology can make such a good stuff. Ok. I sound really judgemental here. Oopssie. Sorry. But then, I really love his rose and I thought of bringing back home (which he allowed me). However, I feel that it is good to let more people admiring his work. So, I decided to leave it in Dr.D's room (my California lecturer). Seriously, it is really an artistic work!

Besides, my friend Wan Yong can really make a good joker's hate. Isn't that wonderful? Just by using colour paper and within 2 hours, the work was done. Oh dear... lovely. And the bookmark leaf.. :)

There are more creations from others but I was too excited during that moment and had forgotten to snap every one of them. I was running, jumping and crawling. Lol.. I am just joking.. :P

In conclusion: Be yourself. Express yourself. Love your work.

The Power Of Psychodrama In Group Counseling

Today, I just experienced the power of psychodrama in group counseling or known as group therapy in my class, together with all my course mates. It is my last class for Group Counseling and I am glad it ended fruitfully. My lecturer manage to expose us to Psychodrama, a way to explore a person through dramatic action on their issues, problems, feeling or dreams in a group of people.

It is developed by Jacob. L. Moreno and has strong element of theater. That's mean, there will be the actor and the audience involved.

(What is Psychodrama? Look here in Wiki)

Frankly, I have no idea at all in this therapy as, it is as new as an iPod phone to me. Lol.. Ok. I mean it is totally new. I have never read nor hear about the content, silly me. I am glad that my lecturer has introduced this therapy to us today because it has catalyzed my cognitive thinking again.

P/s: Lately I have been thinking a lot and that has resulted a growing number of grey hair. Sigh... I am an old-lady in no time. I think I should really reduce my self-reflecting and problem solving moment...
Anyway, if I can connect with my self and share my finding with the people around me (which can benefit you), isn't that good?

Ok then, grow more grey hair if you want.
sob..
=(

A short summary on what we did

To start this therapy session, we need a volunteer who is brave enough to try it in front of a group of people.
In this case, one of my friend volunteered and prepared to face the challenge. She was asked to pick an issue, fully focus on it and then, think of a few people who might involve. Besides, she was asked to reflect her feeling. When this initial stage was done, she can start picking anybody from the group to play any role, either as the people (example: father, mother, sibling, friend or etc) or her feeling (depressed, anger, disappointment, happy and etc).

Once this was done, the 'actress' can start expressing her hidden feeling in whichever way she want to the person/s she has issue with. When she was told to do so, I could already feel my friend had really committed herself into the play - her play. She was allowed to freely express herself, voice up her feeling and thinking and act exactly what she wants. Well, she did. Also, every role-player was allowed to express whatever they think the role will say and do to the actress.

How I feel

Warm tears run down my cheeks and I didn't know what to do, other than grabbing a packet of tissue from my bag. I realized that I was not the only one who was touched with the play as I could spot some watery eyes. The whole session was so real when emotions from everyone including the actress, role-players and the audience started rushing in, taking part like we were in the situation. That was seriously amazing and I should say, this is better than the movie.

Findings

Self-reflection and catharsis (the hidden emotions which had finally burst out) took place during this psychodrama session. I realize that it bring positive effect to the participant (the actor/actress) in which he/she can see the issue clearly, gaining insight and express the unexpressed feeling. This will help the person in facing and dealing with the highlighted issue properly when he/she comes back to reality. Besides, he/she will have confident and positive energy after the session.

Seriously, I am really proud of my friend. She is willing to share her problem and brave enough to face the it. That's something I should learn from her. Bravo girl!

This Psychodrama session ended in a very motivating way in which every role-players will express their feeling to the main actress and give supporting words and hugs. This is something positive and should be carried out in every group counseling. My lecturer did tell us in class before that never leave a wounded wound open. It should be stitched and healed.

Emmmm....
The class had been ended like.... 3 hours ago but my emotion is still wandering around my mind. While in the session, some personal issues of mine appeared and struck my mind. I believe, the issues are similar with my friend's and they need my attention. This is good as I should go into my unfinished business (unsolved problems) and deal with them.

What a powerful therapy I should say.
Maybe I can go further in this area and explore more. This therapy can be very helpful to people and I hope I can master it.

Long way to go....

By the way, any expert here in Psychodrama?
Will you be a participant in this group counseling? Share with me your thoughts. It is good to hear from you.

P/s: Sigh... my font (size) in this post is going crazy again. I wonder what is the problem? Emm... hope that it is not affecting your reading.. :(

Kelly's Career Life Line

There is something I wanna share with you.
Something so personal yet interesting in my case. As I had told you before in my previous post that I had just finished my assignment and guess what? One of the task is to make our own life-line regarding to our very own career development. That's mean, we have to include past experience, present as well as future plan.

It is indeed a very fun assignment which I enjoy a lot. Since it requires personal experience as well as creative work, I am all over it. My nerve get me working without me pushing myself hard. Wait! I did push myself as I am doing last minute work again! Eeerrrrrrr.......

Frankly, I can't denial as last minutes work gives me inspiration. I did try to do it early, before the deadline. However, I realized it was wasting time as I couldn't come up with anything except playing with the pencil.

So, back to my life-line story. By doing this line, I realize how my parents, school, society and my personality have influenced me all this while and I had picked the road which have lead me to today, the present. Each point I made in my life-line indicates something important which I wanted to highlight at that particular age. I drew picture for each point to symbolize the meaning I wanted to explain.

For example, at the age of 19-20, I drew 4 roads which I was stuck before. I felt so lost at that moment as I didn't know what kind of courses I wanted to take after STPM, not to mention the career I want for future. It should be taken seriously as I don't want to have any regret in my life.

So, the 4 roads and an undecided little stick man standing on the road represent my critical moment in my life. It wasn't easy but I had managed to choose the road I want and.... I am here! ;D

The rest of the points after 22, it shows my future plan. You can make some guesses on what I have planned based on the picture if you want. Haha....

Oops. Did I miss my points before 22? It shows my past and the little baby who is sleeping soundly in the picture is ME! Me! Haha.... I love that drawing so much. At first, I thought my water colour skills may be bad since it had been years I never touched my brush. Surprisingly, it turns up pretty well.

If you wish to know how to make your own life-line or any other information regarding to career development, you can drop me an email: curryegg87(at)gmail(dot)com . I may not be an expert, for now (wait till I become an expert. hehe..) but we can make a little discussion on it. Sound fun? Haha..

Oops. I should continue doing my assignment now. Sighhh... another one.
See you guys soon.. And Happy FRIDAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

;D

Bulldog Poll Result & My Crazy Day

Dear readers,

Thank for your care and love which you had sent me in my previous post's comment box. It is so sweet of you for concerning about my health. Hugs. I am really touched. I was sick for a few days and thank God, I manage to recover on time - before sitting for tomorrow test.
Ehhww....

I have been busy preparing myself for my first test, in this semester (Ok ok. At the same time I have finished my Singleniti novel and it is seriously wonderful! I love it!). So, instead of throwing oranges in the lake/river during Chap Goh Mei, I ate them all! Lol. It is good to eat fruits when your throat is burning. Besides, it provides Vitamin C! Hahaha...

Wait. Why do I sound so informal here? Am I writing a letter? Gosh! What happen to me? Don't tell me I am acting abnormal here? I must be reading too much and burden my brain with too much of mental health and emotional well-being information. Geerrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Ok.
Stop this letter-sounded-post and back to my curryegg's blogging style.

I am not going to blog anything regarding to my studies this time. Frankly, I need a break for this hour before continuing my revision. That's what a student life, isn't it? Sigh...

Well, here is something worth to be shared. Still remember on my last two posts which is about a cute-handsome-bulldog? Hehehehe... I hope you still remember that cute face (although some said it is ugly. Hmpm!).

I have received 44 responses so far and thank a million!!!
The result is an interesting one.

Previous post from: Ugly Or Handsome Bulldog?

I am happy with PollDaddy.com free pool widget service. They even provided answers in percentage and pie form. Besides, voter can type their own answer too. Not bad.

But answers like funny and pity... Lol... you guys are so cute la! Hahaha..

Oh ya. I remember someone is asking me about how to make this poll? Sorry if I haven't answer you. Just registered yourself in PollDaddy.com and it will lead you in making your personal poll. Try it! :)

Seriously, I am happy that not many think this dog is ugly. The answer for unique is alright for me because I understand not many people will like a spots-bulldog. Anyway, I realized that humans have different perception and this lead to different emotions. Some may feel it is cute, some may find it ugly. The term cute, ugly, beautiful and other adjective words are actually describing your feeling on certain object or subject. How do we have perception? It is produced from your cognitive system which is influenced by other factors such as family background, social influences, personal system belief, religion and etc.

However, this perception may not last long. It can change! Once your perception changed, your emotional will change as well. For example, you may think that this dog is ugly at the first place. But who knows? After listening to others opinion and my whining and looking at his pictures again, we may change you?

Right?
Yes?
No?

Now, look at this picture again. Does it change your perception?

Lol..
I am going so crazy. Unconsciously, I am actually applying what I read just now. Please, forgive me? It is time to read the book, again. This time, I shall be optimistic!

Yes to my Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being book. Mummy is coming!!!
*hmpm!*

P/s: Nevermind if you don't understand a word here. Curryegg is facing serious mental illness for today. Once the test is over, she will be fine. Promise. Lol... :P

How To Combine Beauty And Self-Confidence?

Nowadays, more and more people are lacking of self confidence to their own physical appearance. This is how eating disorders like Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa happen mostly among teenagers.

Besides, beauty and plastic surgery center are mushrooming in any corner of the world. You can get any beauty service starting from head to toe as long as you've sufficient cash!

Honestly, these services are good in order to help their clients to be more confidence and love themselves more. I believe you've experienced on how you love your new colourful shinning nails, or your new hair styles or your new nose. But believe me, you will never satisfy.

I have always wanted to know the secret of combining beauty and self-confidence. If you know me personally, you'll find out that I'm not a kind of girl with much confidence when it comes to beauty. Maybe it's because I'm not being categorized in the A crowd- where you will get popular people with beautiful features, fashionable wearing, great personality, excellent achievement, and etc.

Besides, people around me do effect the way I behave. Who are they? Parents, relatives and friends (This's what we call Social Psychology). As I've mentioned in my previous post, I indicate that it's human nature who love to compare among each other.

My mum used to say, " Why are your eyes are so small unlike your mum. I must have picked you somewhere in the garbage". For some of you who had heard my rants about how small my eyes are in my previous post, this is the reason I guess. Haha.. blaming my parents. But no worries, I love my single eye lit right now. To make my eyes larger, I can always use mascara or eye shadow.. Right?

According to Psychology, the influence of parents are great and it will influence the child behave along the growing process. I still remember I watched a show about Michael Jackson before, about 4 years ago. The host of the show asked him on what had made his mind to do plastic surgery?

And his answer is, "My dad is my biggest influence. He hates his children for being black. This has made me wanted to be White with higher social level". Note: This is not the exact dialog he had made but the idea is there.

If his dad heard that, he must be very sorry. Look, how parents effect their child greatly? I prefer parents to love and support their child by showing unconditional cares. Because, if they don't the child will suffer. There will be bigger challenges out there- the media and society.

I'd a long conversation with my long-lost-friend in MSN yesterday and she told me that she doesn't have the confidence to her appearance ever since she was small. Of course, my reaction was like.. "Uhh?". For sure, she's a beautiful girl with a lot of admires. I just couldn't believe that a beautiful girl like her will lack of confidence too. She can be a cover girl if a magazine company approach her. Serious!

The question is, why does she feel so bad with her appearance? Of course, the first reason will be family, next friends and society. I guess she did too much of comparison with her siblings, friends and models. I know how she feels. However, I feel there's no point comparing physical appearance as we're all gifted by God. We should be grateful with what we have.

I always believe that every human has his/her own beauty and unique. Take for an example, to select a professional model like in The American Next Top Model, she must have her own unique look and most importantly the skills of being in front of the camera and audience. That's mean, brain and beauty!!! Yup. Other than beauty, she/he must have brain too! I prefer a person to have brain, rather than beauty itself because beauty will fade with time whereas brain will go with time. Agree?

So, stop worrying about your appearance. We're beautiful remember? Well, how should we combine beauty and self-confidence? I would like to conclude: When one has high self confidence to himself/herself, beauty will come eventually.

High Self-Confidence = Beautiful

Let's read this aloud.....

Yes! I'm beautiful!!!

What You Should Know Before Having Baby

Before having any sexual intercourse with your love one, think twice for this question:

"What if unpredictable thing happen and I'm pregnant for the next 10 months?"

Do you want the baby?
Are you prepared for the possibility?
Or you choose abortion instead?

Fetus

Well, this is not a post to stop you from having sex. Don't worry. It's a review on children. Lately, I'm doing my development psychology assignment and forcing myself to learn about children starting from infancy, childhood and adolescence. For sure, this course is interesting and I love reading it. They explain how children development biologically, physically, mentally and socially. To understand these, I've to read the whole book which is about 4cm thick. aiyoyo...

Anyway, it's fun to understand how we'd grown up and developed in becoming an adult. At the same time, this knowledge is useful in preparing yourself to have your own child (especially your first-born). Maybe it's too early for some of us to discuss about having baby since most of my readers are at the age range of 18-25 year old. However, there's no harm if we learn something new and earlier right? Give yourself a chance to understand about children.

They're so CUTE!!!!
Adorable!!!

If you're sensitive enough to your surrounding and can perceive thing from your observation, you might realize there are some children who are very active, socialize, intelligence and etc... while some children are very introvert, slow-learner and etc... Why? And why? And why?

Simple. The way they're being taught influence the way they behave, think and act. This shows that how important the role of the parents in teaching their child are. For example, parents who spend their time reading story books to their child tend to produce a smarter child in the future compare to parents who don't have time for their children. Generally, the ability to learn among the child is more effective at the age of 0-2 year old in which the scientist named it as the Critical Moment.

During critical moment, parents should spend more time with their kids and teach them because this is the time where children can learn effectively. Once you've missed the chance, bye-bye... Why? Because your child will miss the possibility in becoming another Einstein! Or Newton. Or Bill Gates!!!
haha...

Therefore, having a child is not easy. It's like a life-long investment and one should plan it wisely before making any moves. Well, make sure that you've a big bungalow, sport car, maids, jeweleries, and bla bla bla.... before having baby. We wanna give the best to our children, don't you think so?

So my dear readers, if you're thinking of having baby/babies in the future or already have one, two, three..... or dozen (wow), do provide yourself with some knowledge on parenting. Learn the way you should in order to treat your child correctly and effectively.

Stay tune for other issue on human development. Do drop me any comment if you've any suggestion on what you're interested to know and wish to discuss about in my blog. It's always fun to discuss, learn and share things together... ;D

Thank you~

Am I Having Mental Disoders?

Finally, I've finished my first two tests yesterday. They were going quite well. Anyway, I was nervous when I was in the exam hall. It was huge and I was lost for several times. Luckily, I was able to sit for the exam just on time. Yup. JUST ON TIME!
Fuhh... I had gone there for an hour earlier, but still late for it. Haha...

So, how are you guys? Doing well over there?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I still have 4 papers and I am preparing for them. As I was revising my psychology, I was surprised with this topic: Psychology Disorders.

As I am reading this topic, I found out that there are variety of disorders which are stated in DSM-IV-TR.

DSM- Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. This is an American handbook for mental health professionals which is widely accepted classification scheme. It classifies, defines, and describes over 200 mental disorders.

I can imagine what are you thinking now. Your mind is thinking of the word "insane" don't ya? Haha.... Tell me if I am wrong. Well, for all this time I thought that normal people don't experience any symptoms of a psychological disorder.

Try this few questions (I found this in my book):
  • Have you always feel tensed or depressed or anxious?
  • Have you ever worried excessively?
  • Been fearful to something that you know rationally that could not harm you?
  • Had thought about suicide? (I hope not)
  • Used drugs or alcohol to escape from drugs? (Please don't)
  • Shouting all the way to express your stress or anger?
I believe everyone of us will answer yes to at least one of these questions. This shows that everyone experienced the symptoms of a psychological disorder.
Gosh! I don't believe this! I am not!

As I am reading this topic, I find out that I am experiencing the anxiety disorders (a type of psychological disorders). There are five big categories in this anxiety disorders: Generalized anxiety disorder, phobic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

  • Generalized anxiety disorder- a person who feels anxious or worried most of the time for at least 6 months, when not threaten by any specific danger.
  • Panic Disorder - Experience unexpected, severe panic attacks that may last only a minutes. This attacks begin with a feeling of intense apprehension, fear, or terror.
  • Phobias - Suffer from a persistent and irrational fear of a specific object, activity or situation that is excessive and unreasonable given the reality of the threat.
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder - experiencing an unwanted invasion of consciousness repetitively.
  • Post-traumatic Stress disorder - Persistent re-experience of traumatic events through distressing recollections, dreams, hallucinations or dissociative flashbacks. (rape, severe injury, life-threatening events and natural disasters.)
Resources:
Gerrig, R. J. & Zimbardo P. G. (2006). Psychology and Life (18th eds). United States: Pearson Education, Inc.

What I've found out in myself?

Curryegg:
  • Feeling worried and anxious all the time for my mid-term exam - Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Having a great fear and terror for exams and assignments ever since I am a student - Panic disorder
  • Shivering whenever I think about the exam paper. I couldn't even see it! Take it away.. shu..shuh.... - Phobic disorder
  • Keep on thinking and worrying for my exam - Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Feeling afraid of the word 'exam' and 'homework' ever since I was in secondary school. They keep 'hunting' me.... wuuooooo- post-traumatic disorder?
Oopss.. What am I suppose to do?

Gosh! This is scary!

I am having mental disorders now. Muahaha.... But hey! I am still normal (I guess so.. haha..). This is just the normal stage and I believe most of us especially students will face this. Students who wish to achieve good result will of course facing stress but just don't push yourself too hard. We need to balance ourselves by having some relaxation moments for example take some walks at the park, do some sports like swimming or doing something that you enjoy the most for example blogging just like what I am doing now. Hahaha....

Relax....

Actually I am giving myself some reasons to blog. That's why I am here now. Kekekzz..
Anyway, it's good that I can do some revisions about psychology here and at the same time sharing this information with you guys. Okok... I am going to off now. Don't mumble me anymore.. *begging*

Last word: It's normal to feel stress in our lives no matter in work, family, relationship, studies or etc. However, we should be wise in controlling it. Otherwise, you will end up in Tanjung Rambutan,a mental hospital in Malaysia. Lol...

Answer:
False.

Explanation:
Everyone dreams. That's just the matter of fact that either we will remember the dream once we wake up or not. And the interesting point here is that we will start to dream about every 90 minutes!

EVERY 90 minutes!!!

That's mean, if we sleep for 8 hours, we will dream 5 times!! Can you imagine it? Wow! I never know this!
Looks like I have to read more. I will share with you again ya after the reading?
Interesting!
